Vishal Vijay Kumar

Hi everyone! My name is Vishal and I'm a third year medical student running to be your council representative. We all know that in recent years, the Student Union has unfortunately made quite a few decisions that are aligned with most students want or need and that there is a gross misrepresentation of actual student priorities in it. While I don't believe anyone at the Union is doing this intentionally, I believe the problem lies in a lack of desire to "rock the boat", a reluctance to disturb the status quo, a lack of deeper investigation and questioning of whether proposed and existing policy decisions are actually in the best interest of the student body or if there's something that resources are better used for.

My aim therefore, if i were to be elected as Council Rep, will be to be the one who's willing to ask those difficult questions to ensure that we are truly going in the right direction. I will primarily represent the needs of the faculty of medicine student body by working with the year and departmental academic/welfare representatives as well as student surveys to get student opinion, though i suspect the needs of the Faculty of Med will align with the broader student population.

As Council Rep, I will also commit to full transparency and will share details of what was discussed and what decisions were made in council meetings to all.
