Medicine (UG): Phase 3a Academic Representative

Hi, I’m Junior Mbah Mbahnjeck and I’m running to be your Academic Rep. Over the past few years, I’ve held leadership roles including ICSM Cardiovascular Society Conference Chair, IC Sports Chair, and Treasurer of Black Medics UK, where I’ve gained valuable experience advocating for students, managing feedback, and collaborating with faculty to deliver real results.

Year 5 is a pivotal year, and I want to ensure that our academic concerns lead to timely and effective action. Feedback channels already exist, but there’s room to streamline the process so student feedback is addressed more consistently, with clearer communication on progress and outcomes.

A key priority for me is to advocate for students balancing projects like SSCs, QIPs, and electives alongside clinical placements. These projects are valuable, but they can also add pressure to an already stressful year, so I will push for better guidance and flexibility to support students managing these demands.

Additionally, while peer-led academic networks (like tutorials and OSCE practice groups) already exist, I will work to ensure these groups continue to receive institutional support; whether that’s through faculty backing, access to resources, or scheduling assistance, so they can continue to thrive and benefit all Year 5 students.

I’m approachable, organised, and passionate about ensuring Year 5 is a supportive, enriching experience for all of us. If elected, I will work to make sure your voice is heard and drives meaningful change.
