Hey everyone, it's Sihan Zhu, a freshman from Design Engineering, running for the council representative of UG engineering. I believe an undergraduate council representative of engineering is an important position that listens to all voices from all departments and stands up for their interests. To achieve that, this representative should be familiar with the needs of all departments, have the ability to solve social challenges, and dare to speak up for everyone. With these qualities, I believe I’m a fitting choice.
Design engineering courses cover versatile fields, like mathematics, solid mechanics, materials & manufacturing, computing, electronics, thermofluids, and of course design engineering itself. As a design engineering student, studying these subjects helps me engage with your fields, therefore better understanding what you are working towards and what difficulties you may face.
I’ve been identifying and solving problems in people’s lives – that’s what a design engineer does – for nearly a decade. Since primary school, I started to recognize social challenges and address them through inventions. Now at Imperial, I have more opportunities to solve problems for top-tier scholars at the frontier of their fields. Whether it’s tangible inventions or intangible proposals, I’m always sharp and eager to use my mind to tackle issues.
Finally, I’m not only a speaker and student representative, but also the highest scholarship awardee from my high school, which means I’m skilled at both representing students and negotiating with management. Vote for me, and I will do my best to understand and address your concerns!
