Uthman Zakiuddin
I’m running to be your Academic Representative for Design Engineering because I want to make sure everyone in our year feels supported, valued, and able to thrive—both academically and personally. I genuinely care about making our course experience smoother, more engaging, and more connected. I’ll make sure your feedback reaches staff clearly and results in real improvements—like fewer last-minute surprises about deadlines, clearer project guidance, and more consistency across modules so we actually know what’s expected of us (and when). No one should feel left behind—or left confused!
I also want to make sure our voices shape how the course evolves. Design Engineering moves fast, and we know best what’s working and what’s… well, less than optimal. I’ll push for more transparency in how coursework and deadlines are decided and make sure any changes actually help us learn rather than just fill our calendars. Basically, I’ll be the polite-but-persistent person asking the questions we’re all thinking in meetings.
Finally, I’ll work closely with the Wellbeing Rep to make sure academic worries don’t take over the rest of our lives. I know how easy it is to find yourself doing an all-nighter before a deadline, running on caffeine and panic, but that shouldn’t be our default. By tackling issues early and keeping communication open, we can make sure our studies stay challenging but manageable—and maybe even fun. Together, we can make Design Engineering at Imperial a place where we work hard, support each other, and occasionally remember to sleep.
