Haris Forde
Hi everyone! My name is Haris. Physics is a challenging enough degree, but becomes even more difficult without adequate student representation; that's why I'm running to represent Year 1's academic interests.
I believe physics is a strongly collaborative field, and with such a diverse cohort coming from many countries and academic systems, bringing our varied perspectives together strengthens us all. In Y1, collaboration with the department is especially essential for firm foundations. Raising concerns or asking questions to staff can be intimidating, especially in a new intense environment, and might make you feel like an impostor (trust me, I've experienced this too). In these situations, wouldn't you want someone friendly to listen to your academic concerns?
If elected, I would work for all of Y1 to ensure our views are listened to! Whether it be questions of practice or revision resources, unclear guidance on course content, difficulties with analysing data or computing, or any academic issues, I would be your friendly face in the cohort to raise these issues with, easily approachable around Blackett in person or via text. In communicating with the department, I would unify the concerns of our cohort to achieve solutions that would benefit us all: clearer engaging instruction or demonstration for lectures, computing, and labs; smaller student-led supplementary focus groups; or anything that would benefit your and our learning experience!
Vote for me, and choose the candidate who will put your interests first!
