Jessica Yu
Hello! I’m Jessica - I’m running for Physics Academic Representative because I would love the opportunity to improve the student experience and contribute to the Physics department.
As an Academic Representative, I would make student feedback my top priority: using anonymous forms and regular drop-in sessions to create a continuous feedback system, allowing students to raise issues in real time. I know it can sometimes be daunting to speak up, so I would do my best to make the process as convenient and simple as possible. Any feedback would be fairly raised with relevant staff - without bias or personal agenda. This would help to build a genuine two-way system of communication: ensuring that student voices are heard and acted upon, with all responses promptly passed back to the student body.
Despite being new to the department, I’ve had experience in similar roles. As Head Prefect at my secondary school, I held weekly meetings with school management to pass on student feedback and complaints. This taught me how to listen actively, represent others fairly, and communicate effectively between students and staff. I’m also willing to learn - I know this role will present unique challenges, and I’m ready to approach them with openness, adaptability, and a genuine desire to grow.
Thank you for considering me for this role! If you have any questions, comments or just want to chat, please feel free to come up to me - I love meeting new people and would be really interested in anything you have to say.
